A prominent location at the entrance to Meppen’s historic old town is the site for the construction of a new youth center. Designed within a rotunda, it encompasses sheltered outdoor areas and an inner courtyard, in addition to interior spaces. The functional areas of the building are strategically oriented away from the street, directly facing the outdoor spaces in a southwesterly direction. A glass facade, nestled beneath the canopy of the rotunda, merges the indoor and outdoor spaces, offering exceptional flexibility when it comes to their combined use. Incorporated auxiliary spaces maximize utilization of all interior areas, thus minimizing the need for additional site development.

Excerpt from the jury report
“… a convincing design that authentically reflects the identity of the user with modest charm and dignity while appropriately honoring the adjacent city walls.”
