In the heart of Berlin, adjacent to two of the most iconic architectural landmarks of the 20th century, the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has commissioned the construction of a contemporary art museum for the 21st century. The Neue Nationalgalerie is one of these iconic buildings and will be expanded and modernized to enhance its role as a globally renowned exhibition venue. This expansion will take place on an adjacent site, while adhering to contemporary architectural language and logic. A direct underground connection to the new build will be created via the semi-basements of the existing museum. The design of the new build harmoniously integrates with the Neue Nationalgalerie, creating a cohesive and functional unit that incorporates the gallery’s design elements: Foundation, roof and inner courtyard. These elements will be re-interpreted to meet the demands of the extension.
